Remove metadata from Word files

Clear the author, company and edit details from Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. Nothing is uploaded.

or drop files anywhere on this page. JPG, PNG, WebP, PDF, DOCX, XLSX and PPTX.

What does this remove?

From photos: EXIF data such as GPS location, camera, and dates, plus XMP, IPTC and comments. From PDFs: the title, author, software and dates. From Word, Excel and PowerPoint: the author, company, edit time and dates. Photos are not re-compressed, so they lose no quality.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Your browser does the work and the file is not sent to a server. That matters for a privacy tool: you do not have to trust a stranger's server with the file you are cleaning.

What does this not remove?

Anything in the visible content, such as names on a page or faces in a photo. Comments and tracked changes in Office files, and annotations in PDFs, stay in the file, and the tool warns you when it finds them. Text hidden inside an edited PDF can also remain. Pictures inside PDFs and Office files keep their own metadata. If a file really matters, check it with a second tool before you share it.

Why does it keep rotation and colour?

Phones often store a photo sideways with a note saying which way is up. Removing that note would turn your photo, so that one value stays. The colour profile stays too, as it holds no personal details and keeps colours correct.
